General Information

  • Mod-severe infection: use cefepime or carbapenem until susceptibility results return
  • If empiric PO therapy needed to cover Morganella, use prior susceptibilities to guide decision
    • Fluoroquinolones, Bactrim, and 3rd Gen Cephs are options
  • Intrinsically resistant to cefazolin, cefuroxime, ampicillin, Augmentin, nitrofurantoin & fosfomycin

Non-fermenting gram negative rod, of the Enterobacteriaceae family

GI flora, especially in hospitalized patients.

Infection usually in nosocomial setting.

Nosocomial infections, especially UTI and wound infections.

May require contact precautions if highly resistant.
