General Information

Targeted therapy of ESBL infections and other resistant gram negative infections.

  • Immediate and delayed-type allergy
  • GI disturbance
  • Cytopenias, eosinophilia, positive Coombs
  • Liver enzyme abnormalities
  • Seizure risk lower than other carbapenems

Formulary Restrictions

Not Restricted:

  • ESBL Infection (confirmed or presumed based on ceftriaxone or ceftazidime resistance)
  • Receiving PTA

Formulary-Restricted to ID/AMS:

  • Infection due to potentially AMP-C producing pathogens
  • Refractory MSSA infection

Non-formulary: 

  • All other indications
  • May be considered on case-by-case basis with ID consult/approval
