Antimicrobial Stewardship
- 4-6 weeks
- Depends on source control & adequate drainage
- When possible, narrow antibiotic therapy based on culture results
- Empiric anaerobic coverage may not need to be continued when a specific organism is isolated (e.g., K.pneumoniae)
- Antibiotics with good oral bioavailability should be administered orally unless contraindicated (e.g., metronidazole, ciprofloxacin)
- Some cases of liver abscess can be stepped down to oral amoxicillin-clavulanate
