COVID-19 Vaccines

  • Low-grade fever, chills, headache, arm soreness
  • May take acetaminophen or ibuprofen if needed. Do not take prophylactically

Moderna specific:

  • Delayed rash on arm of injection. May appear 5 to 10 days after receiving the vaccine
  • May take an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine or loratadine for itching. Acetaminophen or an ice pack may be used for swelling or arm pain

Johnson and Johnson specific:

  • Note: Effects not studied in pregnancy or lactation
  • In study COV3001, the most common local solicited adverse reaction (≥10%) reported was injection site pain (48.6%). The most common systemic adverse reactions (≥10%) were headache (38.9%), fatigue (38.2%), myalgia (33.2%), and nausea (14.2%)
  • No prophylaxis recommended at this time, not studied
