General Information

Nonfermenting aerobic gram negative bacillus

Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials

Common in hospital environment

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including UTI, pneumonia - HAP/VAP, CNS, intra-abdominal, bacteremia, vascular catheter infection, burns/wound infection, osteomyelitis and others

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant
