Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome

Most Common Pathogen

Empiric Treatment

Max: 2,000 mg/dose

  • Covers MSSA
  • Most toxin producing Staphylococcus spp. are MSSA

PLUS

Max: 600 mg/dose

  • Clindamycin is added to decrease toxin production

IF NOT IMPROVING OR IF PATIENT IS VERY SICK, CONSIDER ADDING

  • Although the majority of S. aureus that are toxin producing are not MRSA, it is still possible. Thus vancomycin should be ADDED in those that are very sick and/or not improving on the above regimen until MRSA is ruled out.
