Early-Onset Sepsis

Suspected Early-Onset Sepsis

Refers to sepsis occurring < 72 hours of birth

Pertains to newborns GA >/= 37 weeks admitted to the NICU or Postpartum unit

May be applied to newborns GA 35-36 weeks with caution

Symptoms

Unwell appearance may include:

  • Hypotonia

  • Seizures

  • Lethargy

  • Respiratory distress

  • Temperature instability

  • Hemodynamic instability

  • Poor peripheral perfusion

  • Acidosis
