Pancreatitis

Acute inflammation of the pancreas characterized by persistent organ failure >48 hours that may involve other organ involvement and/or systemic complications

Requiring ICU admission

Acute necrotic fluid collections or walled-off necrosis that is initially sterile. ~30% develop infected necrosis.

Should be suspected in patients who deteriorate (rising inflammatory markers, fever) after >7 days of hospitalization and demonstrate the presence of gas in necrosis.
