General Information

Non-fermenting aerobic Gram-negative bacilli

Ubiquitous, water-associated, environmental organism. Common in hospital environment.

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • UTI
  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP
  • CNS
  • Intra-abdominal infections
  • Bacteremia
  • Vascular catheter infection
  • Burns/wound infection
  • Osteomyelitis

May require contact +/- droplet precautions if highly resistant.
