General Information

Nafcillin or Cefazolin preferred for MSSA

Gram positive cocci in clusters, Coagulase positive

Methicillin-Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus

Bloodstream infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus require an Infectious Disease consult.

MSSA is not a common urinary pathogen. Recommend additional work-up.

BioFire: defined as Staphylococcus aureus with negative MecA gene result.
